Scientific analysis of the stresses on a G-ring® in use led us to design a new shape using new materials. This engineering image shows the area of the ring that receives the greatest stress during use (red areas). The oval shape of the wire provides increased material mass while reducing horizontal thickness. This ratio, mass vs. thickness, is critical to the ring's ability to generate increased spring tension without taking a permanent set in the open position.

To further increase the longevity of the ring, a new proprietary stainless steel was used. This custom blended steel is specifically formulated to increase ring resiliency.

Our final step to improve G-Ring performance was to "preset" the ring with tension and pass it through a second heat-treating process. This process, besides imparting the new Gold coloration, causes the tines of the ring to press against one another even when the ring is at rest.
